I started early, took my dog, And visited the sea; The mermaids in the basement Came out to look at me. And frigates in the upper floor Extended hempen hands, Presuming me to be a mouse Aground, upon the sands. But no man moved me till the tide Went past my simple shoe, And past my apron and my belt, And past my bodice too, And made as he would eat me up As wholly as a dew Upon a dandelion's sleeve - And then I started too. And he - he followed close behind; I felt his silver heel Upon my ankle, - then my shoes Would overflow with pearl. Until we met the solid town, No man he seemed to know; And bowing with a mighty look At me, the sea withdrew. - Emily Dickinson This past Summer (honestly, I cannot believe that it is the Easter holidays already), Allyce and I visited Laura down in Orbost. While Laura was working one day Allyce and I made our way to a beach near Marlo. The waves were huge, crashing down on the beach and making us jump back to spare our toes. The current is always surprising strong and dangerous around Marlo so we didn't go swimming there, but it was a good place to test out my new camera. It was the only camera I brought on that trip and it held up surprising well. I still haven't introduced the blog to it, I was planning on taking some photographs of it with something other than my phone first. I'll get around to it eventually.
