Thank goodness I had seen the statue of David on my last trip to Florence, as I would have been bitterly disappointed if that was not the case! Due to it being so close to New Year's, a lot of attractions in Florence were closed (see my previous post re the gorgeous but unaccessible Duomo). The Uffizi Gallery though wasn't. However the lines to see the famous statue of David were so long it just didn't seem worth it! Not after having been lucky enough to see it before. Mel and I did a bit of wandering around the area, debating whether or not to join the line. Eventually the allure of the gelato store won out and we left David for next time. Though, let's be honest: if I had the choice again between standing in a line for an hour or going to get gelato, I'd still probably pick gelato.
