Oh Il Duomo, che bella! This is one seriously impressive cathedral. The gothic architecture is so striking, even when one is up close. Inside is no different. Dark and gloomy, with beautiful smatterings of light overseeing the the more interesting of statues. We toured the inside of the cathedral, laying eyes on everything from wax dripping onto the floor to the dead priests lining the underground compartments. Everything held a kind of beauty only awarded to the most gloomy. We weren't stopping at the inside though, Melissa and I were determined to climb to the rooftops, despite the obstacles in our way (namely: we couldn't find the correct entrance). More on that later!

After spending a large chunk of our bank accounts, it was time to leave the beautiful Lucerne. We came away though with so many beautiful things: watches, army knives, souvenirs and even a ukulele! That was kind of hilarious to explain to Melissa when I got back to the hotel room that night. While there wasn't a whole lot of touristy things to see in Lucerne, the gorgeous shopping certainly made up for it.
Below you can see the entrance to our hotel. This was the only city where we stayed in a hostel-style place as opposed to hotel rooms (I am much more of a privacy lady). But more on that in a later post I think. Melissa was very excited due to the tiny smattering of snow lying on the ground near the stairs. She created a tiny snowman there. It was the only city (not including Schloss Neuschwanstein) where it snowed for the whole trip!
I got to test out my night photography skills whilst in Lucerne. Wandering around the city at night was so peaceful, what with the secluded cobblestone streets and gorgeous lights everywhere. I played around a little with some long exposure photographs and for someone who is not exactly well versed in long exposure techniques (I much prefer natural lighting shoots during the day) I don't think they came up too bad!
