After somewhat purposely getting ourselves lost in the gardens, Mel and I head back up to the Château in time to see the sun begin to set. The light hits the palace in the way I imagined the designers intended it to, truly turning it into the golden palace. It feels like the most perfect ending to a truly wonderful day but one moment trumps this one a few minutes later, I'll share it with you soon. You cannot deny Versailles it's grandeur though, the place is so wonderfully spectacular. Our day there was perfect, full of scenery, sculpture, macarons, gardens, history and beauty.

We ate these while milling around on an abandoned outdoor seating area (joys of travelling in Winter). They were certainly not the nicest macarons I have ever had, but they do look very pretty in a picture. Also, I couldn't possibly leave France without having one.
There are downsides to travelling overseas in the Autumn. The rain, for one. The cold, another. Then you have this. These marvelous, impressive, magnificent colours I encountered throughout Europe. Paris especially was covered with the rich reds and oranges of Autumn. The kind of colour so vibrant it needs little editing post-production. The gardens of Versailles, particularly this walk in between La Grande Trianon and La Petit Trianon, was filled with the luscious falling leaves.
