The Berlin Christmas market was by far one of the very best I visited whilst in Europe. You have to pay to get in to the one near the University, but it is well worth the one euro. It is filled with interesting foods, toys, decorations, gifts and people. I buy an ornament for my tree at home, eat a delicious lunch of this strange bread with cheese, buy some caramelised macadamias (heaven) for later and try the MOST AMAZING APPLE CHIPS. Germany, I thought your food would suck and I was very much wrong. For that I am glad. Keep it up. 
The Brandenburg Gate is right around the corner from the Reichstag, and really isn't too difficult to locate. Mel and I wandered up along the main road to the gate after breakfast. The trees along this road are simply gorgeous. They are called linden trees, apparently, and were the most delightful shades of autumn. This avenue is called Unter den Linden, and once led to the Prussian palace. Brandenburger Tor is the gate to this avenue, and was built as a monument to peace. The Quadriga sits atop the gate, and looks over Berlin. I felt so small standing underneath the gateway. It was a beautiful place, even with the ridiculous American tourists taking dorky photographs with fake soldiers.
