La Bouffe a La Flottille

Mel and I stopped for a bite to eat at a darling little restaurant just near the Basin d'Apollon. We overindulged on pizza, hot chocolate and the most delicious tarte tatin. Rather nice when it is freezing outside and you haven't eaten since seven that morning.

Jardin de Versailles

Okay, to be fair, this post is pretty photo heavy. I make no apologies, the gardens at Versailles were just ridiculously beautiful. It is all kinds of difficult not to include every single photograph I took there (though that may or may not happen with every post). I am so glad that the weather this day was gorgeous, that kind of sunny but still really chilly weather that makes your nose ache but I still love. We spent hours wandering the grounds and I'm pretty sure we still only saw about 1/8 of them. The gardens are mostly manicured, creating lines of trees and hedges in intricate patterns. There are mazes and secret little nooks and I'm pretty sure I could visit these gardens every day and never feel bored.

Hall of Mirrors

The Hall of Mirrors, probably the most well-known room in the Château, is less grand than I expected it to be, but no less beautiful. I take a photograph of myself in the mirrors, and wonder how many people have done that before. Who took the first photograph in the room filled with reflected light? There are millions of photographs taken at Versailles every year, but who first thought of trying to capture it's beauty in frame? In a room designed with light in mind, I imagine it was difficult for that first photographer to restrain themselves.

There are more people lingering in this room than any other, and I find it difficult to get a shot without someone’s head popping up.

The whole of Versailles is magnificent. Everything is like The Hall of Mirrors: full of marble, chandeliers and fancy paintings. There was just so much to see so therefore, I have a lot to share. Stay tuned!

Le Palais de Versailles

What can I say about the Palace of Versailles that hasn't already been said? It's talked about often as being an absolute must for anyone visiting Paris. Let's be honest. They are completely right. It is awesome. Just walking through it is so incredibly mesmerizing. I felt as if I needed to stay in each room for an hour so as to gather all the detail I could. There is so much detail. Chandeliers people. Look at them all. And the painted ceilings. How can I deal? There is so much pretty in Versailles. It does have a distinctly Marie Antoinette feel about it (the flowers, not the beheading). Also, secret doors. Secret doors. Can I move in yet? Think of all the sock slides I could do along those marble hallways.

La Cour de Versailles

After our slight mishap with the trains the day before, it was a relief to disembark onto the platform at Versailles. A short walk up a slight hill and I caught sight of the magnificent Palace of Versailles. The grandeur of this place cannot possibly be described in words. At least not in my words anyway. Everything is gilded with gold and made of marble, and that's just on the outside. Inside it just gets more wonderful. If there was one thing (other than the usual attractions in Paris) I would recommend, it would be a visit to Versailles. It turned out to be one of my favourite days of the whole trip.
