a fancy weekend in the city

Getting all dolled up.

It's the winter holidays so Ash, Jenna and I head into the city for a weekend. We head up early, to have high tea at the Langham. This is for Ash, it's a dinosaur themed high tea. We drink champagne whilst eating tiny sandwiches shaped like dinosaur bones. Afterwards, a little tipsy, we make our way into the CBD. We get our makeup done at Mecca, an experience I've never had before but am excited to try. I watch carefully and take deep breaths to calm my nerves. The makeup artist is kind and it feels exciting to use expensive and luxurious products on my face. Afterwards I feel stunning and confident with my choices. The best part is that we get to spend the price of the makeover on products in the store. I purchase some ludicrously expensive products I would otherwise not have bought. It feels fancy and fun.

We go back to the hotel and change. I wear an emerald green top that makes me feel like I belong on a fancy night out in the city. We go to the National Gallery, for their Friday nights music and art show. It's loud, and busy, but I enjoy seeing the Terracotta soldiers on display, especially the modern installation made to accompany them.
Afterwards we head to the Storyville bar, a bar designed to look like the inside of a birdcage. All if the cocktails are book-themed and I order one called the Goblet of Fire, which tastes disgustingly like cinnamon but is very impressive when lit on fire. This is about as much as we can take and call it a night soon after. It feels strange, my feeling fairly comfortable with my surroundings.

The next morning we head out for breakfast before Jenna heads off for a family do. I feel in my element here, leading the way through the alleys and arcades, showing Ash my favourite spots. It makes me feel more confident about a decision I've not so recently made and like I can actually do this. Heading home we sing along to Moulin Rogue and I feel like I belong.
