Blowing in the wind

Hanging on for dear life.

It wasn't just this little echidna who was clinging to the side of the hill that windy Saturday. Myself, along with four others, were up there struggling to walk as well. I had been invited by a collegue from work (the incomparable Cathy) to come with her on a photography expedition to Phillip Island. So, despite the negative outlook on the weather, I set off. We travelled together in Cathy's van equipped with copious amounts of camera gear and a healthy array of snacks.

By the time we arrived at the first beach, the wind was blowing so strongly that it was difficult to see where we were even walking, what with the sand gushing across the carpark. It lessened down on the beach however, where sea foam wobbled and floated around in all directions. I have never seen such large amounts of sea foam before. It was astonishing. We all snapped away, gleefully capturing every beautiful speck of that beach with our cameras. I had brought along my regular Canon 500D, but one of the ladies there had a brand new Canon EOS 5d MarkIV.
It really is a thing of beauty. I was lucky enough to have a bit of  a play. What got me at first was how heavy it was, I can see why it has been labelled a beast of a camera!

We travelled around to a number of different beaches, practising long exposure shots and scaling cliffs along the way. One beach had a gorgeous 100 year old shipwreck embedded in the sand. Up at the Nobbies the wind got even worse but we managed to not fall off the side of the cliff. Traipsing through the grass, sipping champange in the van and clambering across rocks in order to get the perfect shot made for a wonderful day. It is always nice to make new friends, especially ones who are as obsessed with photographs as I am!

Make sure you watch my video from this day, it is much easier to see just how horrendous the wind truly was!
