Shibuya crossing

The busiest crossing in the world.

This was actually my second visit to Shibuya Crossing, the crazy street crossing that sees thousands of people cross the road every single day. I had been earlier in the morning but, unlike me, the people of Tokyo are not exactly morning people and it was rather disappointing. So I headed back that evening to get some dinner in Shibuya so I could see the crossing in action again. This time around I was not disappointed. It really is nuts. There are hundreds of people everywhere, when you cross, it is almost impossible to see where you are going.

I ventured up to the Starbucks atop the Tsutaya bookstore to view the crossing from above, it has the best free view. Because it was dark and my camera was focusing on me instead of the ground through the window, the photos I got of the crossing itself are pretty sub-par. I included them though to give you a sense of how busy the crossing is. One of the baristas told me that this was a very slow day too.

I ate dinner at a "restaurant" where you order your
meal through a coin machine out the front. I had to take a photo of it for prosperity, you just don't find things like this in Australia! I enjoyed Shibuya, the nightlife was pretty fun to experience. I also purchased a copy of The Tales of the Beedle the Bard in Japanese. I can't read a word of it, but the books in Japan fascinated me! They read things backwards, so the cover is on what would normally be the back. Plus, all the books are the exact same size and usually have the same plain white cover protecting them. They gave me one of these covers at the counter. It's odd that the books are the size they are, it means longer books like the first Harry Potter are chopped up into multiple books.

All in all, it was a nice end to my time in Tokyo, next stop: Nara!
