The golden line edging it way along the cobblestones in this Munich street looks beautiful. The reason for its being? No where near as much. This line represents those who walked the road on the way to work each day during the Second World War. It was a longer way to travel, but they did so to avoid being forced to salute to the Nazi guards at the end of the adjacent street. Unfortunately, the guards caught on to this quiet protest and shot anyone who dared to defy them and walk down the street. A tragic end, but they are remembered every day by those who walk down the street freely today.
